Reflection...

Children: So innocent...so impressionable.

Yet Jesus says, "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3) What does He mean by becoming like little children? How does that play out in our lives?

When I think of a child in relationship with their parents, a child is never worried about what's for dinner, if they have clean clothes to wear, if they have a ride to soccer practice, if they are going to be loved tomorrow or cared for and nourished...etc. In the same way, I feel like through our adult lives we have the tendency to take all of life's little needs and make them our own worries, and those worries inevitably become major concerns for us. As simply put as it might be, God's calling us to trust in Him as we trusted our parents while we were gorwing young. Just come home and dinner's on the table. Just wake up and your clothes are clean. Just Trust that all these will be provided for you. Trust Him like you trusted your parents to take care of your needs and more...

As I walk into another interesting phase in my life I'm faced with many of these concerns. If I were to trust god with this as I did when I trusted my parents bringing me up, I wouldn't be as worried about the outcome. I would simply show up. We truly have an awsome God.
Cheers!

Children realize that when an authority tells them to do something they better do it. When little jonny warner was told by his mom to brush his teeth as a kid, jonny probably did it bc his mom told him to, not because he understood the importance brushing would have on his teeth later in life. Jesus has told us many things to do. Basically, since he is the authority, we don't really have an option to obey or not to obey. Just like little jonny didn't get an option whether or not to brush his teeth. (Get where i'm going with this) We might not see the benefit now or ever for some things we are told to do, we still need to obey everything. Just like little jonny did.

just a thought

I agree with both of you. A child trusts without thinking or anything. Children cannot live without trusting those around them. To a kid, trust isnt a choice or anything, its more something that they just do as a necessity to live. I do have one question though. Were there any major differences back then in the way that children were viewed? anything different back then that could possible make this verse have more meaning that what we already talked about?

Great thoughts guys...great questions Ian. Anyone want to take up Ian's question and do a little research for the good of the group?
